Dr Watson studied at the University of Queensland, completing a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and then Bachelor of Medicine, graduating in 2011. The foundation of her specialty training was on the Sunshine Coast, and she gained further tertiary experience the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and worked regionally in Hervey Bay. During her training, she achieved the highest national score in the RANZCOG Oral Examination, receiving the Award for Outstanding Achievement. She was recognised as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in February 2022 and has been employed full time as a staff specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital since that time. She opened her private practice in gynaecology in 2024. 

Vanessa is actively involved in education in her field. Locally, she teaches gynaecology trainees a broad range of operations at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, including mentoring senior trainees learning advanced laparoscopic surgery. Nationally, she develops educational resources for doctors, midwives and nurses working in rural areas.  Dr Watson practices evidence-based medicine and is involved in keeping hospital processes safe and up to date. Her focus is on the priorities of her patients and providing individualised care.

Dr Watson cares for patients with a broad range of gynaecological complaints including:

  • Endometriosis

  • Contraception

  • Colposcopy for abnormal cervical screening

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Vulval conditions

  • Fibroids & Adenomyosis

  • Persistent pelvic pain

  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome

  • Menopause including hormonal treatment

  • Urinary incontinence
